FAQs

Cataract Surgery Cost — Your Questions Answered

How much does private cataract surgery cost in the UK?+

Private cataract surgery in the UK typically costs £2,750–£3,500 per eye with a standard monofocal lens, and £3,500–£4,500 per eye with a premium multifocal or toric lens. At Tahmina Pearsall's London practice, cataract surgery starts from £2,750 per eye, and the fee includes the surgeon, anaesthetist, hospital, standard lens implant and all routine aftercare.

What is included in the cataract surgery cost?+

The quoted price covers your consultant surgeon's fee, the anaesthetist, use of the hospital theatre, the intraocular lens (IOL) implant, all standard pre-operative measurements and every follow-up appointment for the first 12 months. The initial £250 consultation is charged separately and is deducted from your surgery fee if you proceed.

How much more do premium lenses cost?+

Premium intraocular lenses — including multifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF) and toric lenses for astigmatism — add approximately £750–£1,750 per eye on top of the standard cataract package. In return they reduce or remove your need for reading glasses after surgery.

Is cataract surgery cheaper on the NHS?+

NHS cataract surgery is free at the point of care, but waiting lists in London currently run from several months to over a year. Private cataract surgery removes the wait — most patients are treated within 2–4 weeks of consultation — and gives you a choice of surgeon and premium lens options not routinely offered on the NHS.

Does health insurance cover cataract surgery?+

Yes. Cataract surgery is covered by most major UK health insurers including Bupa, AXA PPP, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, Allianz, SAGA and WPA. Ms Pearsall is fee-assured and Bupa Platinum recognised, so if you are insured we bill your insurer directly for consultation, diagnostics, surgery and aftercare.

Can I pay monthly for cataract surgery?+

Yes — 0% and low-interest finance is available via our partner iDeal4Finance, subject to personal credit checks. Most patients spread the cost of one or both eyes over 12–24 months.

Are there any hidden costs?+

No. The price you are quoted after your consultation is the price you pay. There are no separate charges for the theatre, anaesthetist, lens or standard follow-ups.

Can I pay on the spot after my consultation or treatment?+

Yes, absolutely! You can conveniently pay on the spot right after your visit.

Consultation fee is £250

We accept most major insurance companies.

Tahmina accepts AXA PPP, Bupa, Cigna, Allianz, SAGA, WPA and Aviva, meaning that if you’re insured with these companies, we will bill your insurer to include your cataract consultation, diagnostic tests, surgery and follow-ups.

She is also Bupa Platinum recognised. Bupa Platinum consultants have been rated ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ by 97% of Bupa customers so, you can expect to be looked after by an expert in her field.
